| Layers of dentate gyrus
From the surface of the dentate gyrus, these layers are: the molecular layer (stratum moleculare), which contains dendrites of granular cells and some incoming axons from the perforant pathway, the granular layer (stratum granulare), which contains the layer of small granular cells, and the multiform layer (stratum multiforme), also sometimes called the polymorphic layer, which contains axons of granular cells and some afferent axons entering via the fornix. | |
