Heterophile antigen

1. An antigen or antigenic determinant that is found in different tissues in more than one species. 2. An antigen that is possessed by a variety of different phylogenetically unrelated species; the various organ- or tissue-specific antigens, the a- and ß-crystalline protein of the lens of the eye, and Forssman antigen.
