Hepatitis B vaccine

Originally a formalin-inactivated vaccine prepared from the surface antigen (HBsAg) of the hepatitis B virus; the antigen was formerly obtained from the plasma of human carriers of the virus; today in the United States, purified HBsAg is now primarily prepared by recombinant DNA technology and is used almost exclusively for immunization.
